Skater Spotlight on Audra D!

FSCSM will feature a different club skater in our monthly newsletter each month. Featured skaters are chosen randomly. The featured skater for this month is Audra D!

Introduce yourself and when you started skating.

My name is Audra. I am 8 years old and I’m in 3rd grade. I started skating 2 years ago on my 6th birthday.

How did you get into figure skating?

I have always loved to watch ice skating and I used to pretend to ice skate on hard surfaces with leg warmers on my feet. Every year, my parents take me on a birthday adventure. They took me to LTS as a surprise and I loved it.

Have you played any other sports, or do you play any other sports currently?

I took swimming lessons when I was a toddler. Now, I don’t do anything else except skating.

What is your favorite part of skating?

I like the way skating makes me feel confident and strong. I’ve also made a lot of friends!

What is your favorite move in skating?

I really like doing jumps and love learning new ones. I like to do axels off ice. They are really fun. I am excited to learn how to do them on ice.

What are your biggest struggles?

Shoot the ducks and spirals are things I am working on. I’m trying to hold my spiral longer and lift my leg higher. When I do my shoot the duck, I’m trying to get lower without falling on my butt!

What is on your skating bucket list?

I really want to do an axel on ice! I also want to compete with my friends.

What do you enjoy doing outside of skating?

I love to read! I just finished the Harry Potter series. I’m also working on writing books and knitting a Harry Potter scarf just for me!
